Can you believe I’m living 2 hours away from this Villa Rothschild wonder and I never visited it ? Well, it took me 24 years before going. Still, how could I miss for so long this beautiful place? I think that you need to travel abroad to realize that home is just as beautiful as the rest of the world. Located in St Jean Cap Ferrat on the French Riviera, the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild can be visited all year long. And let me tell you that it worth the trip: between the fabulous gardens to the collecting art inside, you’ll be amazed during the whole tour.
A perfect French Riviera spot
Let’s start by the wonderful location of the place. The Villa is located on the uphills of the town, with an incredible view on the French Riviera and its turquoise water.
An art collection
But stepping inside the Villa Rothschild is just as beautiful and precious as the outside. With the visit, you will be able to learn a few things about the Villa and its owner, Beatrice de Rothschild. She was a member of the prominent Rothschild banking family of France. The baroness, born in 1864 married Maurice Ephrussi . But after a disastrous marriage, she turned her attention to her greatest passion, collecting art. Thus, we can now admire all the prestigious art items she acquired -from statues to furniture that once belonged to Marie-Antoinette. If the interior decor was pure wonder, wait until you see the gardens. They are beautifully symmetric, emphasized with flowers, trees, statues and fountains.
We really enjoyed visiting the place and finding such a treasure in the middle of the French Riviera. Throughout the year, numerous events are taking place inside the Villa (ie Pumpkin Festival in October, brunches , dinners etc). A regular visit will take you between 2-3 hours and tickets cost 14 EUR per person (which includes a complete and interesting audio tour). I can’t recommend you enough to discover this place, especially if you find yourself in the area.
